2 sets in pool play
21 pts capped at 23
One 30 sec timeout per set

Rally play
  • Two teams compete to ground the ball on the opponent’s court.
  • Each team gets up to 3 contacts (not including a block touch)
Scoring system
  • Rally scoring
  • Game to 21. Switch sides every 7 points.
Serving
  • Server must rotate after side-out
  • Must keep original serving order
Ball handling
  • Clean contacts only (no lifts/carries/doubles)
  • Stricter setting rules than indoor (less spin allowed)
  • Open-hand tips/dinks are not allowed (must use knuckles or roll shot)
  • Overhead pass as a first contact will be judged on the same criteria as a set
  • Doubles on the first contact allowed provided it is a defensive reaction to a hard-driven ball.
  • Setting as a first contact must be perfect. If played over the net, ball direction must be square to shoulders
Net play
  • No touching the net during play if it interferes
Blocking rules
  • After a block, team has 3 more contacts ("Block plus 3")
No specialized positions

    No front row or back row

    All players can:
    • Serve
    • Attack
    • Block
Open-hand rules
  • No open-hand tipping
  • Setting over the net must be square to shoulders
